Mental health and wellbeing

We understand that studying can be rewarding, but it can also feel overwhelming at times – especially when you are balancing learning with work, caring responsibilities or other pressures. Whether you are living with a diagnosed mental health condition, have noticed changes in your thoughts, feelings or behaviour, or are simply looking for ways to take better care of yourself, you are not alone. This page is here to offer support, reassurance and helpful resources – we are here to support you.

You are not alone.

We know that distance learning can sometimes feel isolating. If you are feeling low, anxious or under pressure, please remember that it’s okay to ask for help. You don’t need to be in crisis to reach out; talking to someone can make a real difference.

You can always contact your learning coach if you are finding things difficult; they are here to support you, not just academically but personally, too. Our student support team is also available five days a week to answer your queries and offer a helping hand whenever you need it.

Support from Unitas

Here's how we can help:

  • Reach out to your learning coach – they're your first point of contact if you're feeling overwhelmed.

  • Request a check-in – if you need a bit more support, let us know and we’ll arrange a time to talk.

  • Learning Support – if your mental health is affecting your ability to study, we can look at options like extensions or adjustments.

If you are not sure who to contact, just email contact@unitas.uk.net or call us on 01603 570365 and our team will point you in the right direction.

Tips for online study

Studying online gives you flexibility, but it also requires self-motivation and organisation. Here are a few ways to stay on track and get the most out of your learning:

  • Create a dedicated study space – somewhere quiet, tidy and free from distractions if possible.

  • Set regular study times – having a routine helps you build momentum and makes learning part of your week.

  • Break tasks into smaller goals – this keeps things manageable and gives you a sense of progress.

  • Limit distractions – switch off notifications or use tools like Forest or Pomodoro timers to help you stay focused.

  • Stay in touch – check in with your learning coach or peers to stay connected and supported.

Hand Gesture

Your wellbeing matters to us.

Here are a few ways to support your overall wellbeing:

  • Make time for things you enjoy – even short activities like reading, music or a favourite TV show can recharge you.

  • Move your body – gentle exercise, walking or stretching can help lift your energy and improve focus.

  • Rest well – getting enough sleep gives your brain time to recharge and process what you’ve learned.

  • Eat well – nourishing your body can support both mental and physical health.

  • Celebrate small wins – every step forward in your learning journey is worth recognising.
