Learning Coach in Youth Justice … to Associate Fellow HEA

Martin Honnor at University of Suffolk in Academic dress

We often find that people are reluctant to shout about their own success, but in reality they should not be afraid to do so.  This could help to inspire others to achieve their own goals and aspirations!

I talked to one of our Learning Coaches, Martin Honnor, about his recent success. Martin recently completed his own course of online study, supported by Unitas, to further enhance his qualifications.  This enabled Martin to apply to become an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA), now part of Advance HE.  This means he can use the title “AFHEA” after his name.

Martin Honnor said:

“I look forward to 2023 and to find time to explore opportunities for new learning and development as an associate fellow.  I’m not one for using letters after signatures, but recall being rather proud to bracket AFHEA after my name on a job application reference for a former youth justice colleague of mine.

Using “AFHEA” is very exciting, but this award is not all about my development.  Foremost in my mind is the hard work and achievements of those who engage in distance learning. On a weekly basis I am regularly humbled by the commitment, drive and sheer hard graft of mature learners who engage in academic learning. For many students it will be the first time back to academic education since leaving school, and with challenges such as family commitments and busy work schedules it is no easy ride. It is with this in mind the reason why this award is important, simply because those engaging in higher education can be assured that I have met a standard of excellence in distance coaching and academic support that students rightly deserve in return for their own hard work and commitment.”

Unitas has a commitment to professionally developing its team of Learning Coaches.  This ensures we maintain the high standards of practice required to motivate, support and retain students on all of our courses.

Our Learning Coaches ensure that our students can progress through their studies, benefitting themselves, their employers and the children and young people that they work with. https://unitas.uk.net/student-support/

The team at Unitas are immensely proud of the commitment of our Learning Coaches to their own professional development and academic status.

Congratulations Martin!
