Running TextNow®

Using a simple but structured model, with the support of a library and incentive scheme, TextNow® can run in a variety of establishments from schools to pupil referral units, youth offending teams to training providers.

Unitas supports each TextNow site by providing:

  • a proven programme model
  • online training for coordinators and coaches
  • a small library of books
  • diary materials
  • funding for the awards scheme
  • information, advice and guidance from the TextNow programme management team.

Sites running TextNow are required to:

  • recruit volunteer coaches – sufficient to work on a one-to-one basis with each young person for 20 minutes a day, five days a week, for ten weeks
  • appoint a site coordinator to liaise with the TextNow programme management team
  • provide monitoring information, including reading assessments of young people before and after participation in the programme, to enable a thorough evaluation
  • adhere to the Operational Specification for TextNow.
