Child's Play: Parenting Practitioner Box

Encourage parenting skills in young people through focusing on what kind of parent they want to be. Communication and interaction with children are explored through the medium of toys and games. Learners will make toys, games or books for children and then use them together, encouraging parent-child interaction.

Child's Play enrichment may be used as a complete programme or as the basis of a more comprehensive programme by using the extension activities. You may wish to include it in existing programmes on parenting for young people. The practitioner pack introduces the aims and plan of the programme and sets out sessions, including:

• becoming a parent
• health and safety with toys
• child development.

The practitioners' manual lays out literacy and numeracy objectives and links the programme to other PLUS programmes and useful external resources. The practitioners' resources booklet and CD-ROM include information sheets, diagrams and activity sheets to support the sessions.

The pack consists of a practitioners' manual (48pp), a practitioners' resources booklet (28pp), a practitioners' resources CD-ROM, a learners' ideas book (28pp) and a stencil.
