TextNow® receives grant from Esmee Fairbairn Foundation

As a result of a significant grant from the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation, Unitas’s successful motivational reading programme, TextNow®, is being rolled out over the next three years, starting in September 2010.

The TextNow reading programme motivates young people to read through developing their enjoyment of, and confidence in, reading. TextNow is aimed primarily at 11 to 19-year-olds who struggle with their reading. The programme is run over a ten-week period, with young people spending 20 minutes a day reading one-to-one with a dedicated coach.

The Esmee Fairbairn Foundation, one of the UK’s largest independent grant-making foundations, includes among its primary interests both education and learning, and helping disadvantaged people to participate more fully in society. This grant will support Unitas to offer TextNow to looked after children, and to schools that have particular needs, including Challenge Schools and EBD Schools.

Unitas is very grateful for the support of the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation in funding the ongoing development and wider delivery of TextNow.
